Students will not be the only ones getting evaluated come a few weeks. During the Informational Forum held Thursday, October 29 in Burton Morgan Lecture Hall, Self-Study Chair Jessica Rettig took time to update students, teaching faculty, professional and administrative staff, supportive operating staff, and community members about Denison's recent self-study report and the comprehensive review visit by Denison's accrediting agency, the North Central Association (NCA).

Brisson, Hills to lead student body

Denison students elected junior Eric "Harry" Brisson for DCGA president and sophomore Kale Hills for DCGA vice president today. They will begin their terms next semester. According to the DCGA elections committee, 1,307 of 2,108 students enrolled at Denison voted in today's election, making voter participation 62%.

Cleveland Hall, a former gymnasium, was where the "three-sided man [found] encouragement for the exercise of all his powers," cited in a Denisonian article written over 100 years ago. Today, Cleveland Hall is known as Bryant Arts Center, but it is still a place of encouragement and inspiration for all students.

Swasey was packed in anticipation of a talk led by two widely-recognized and accomplished political figures, Senator Bill Bradley and Speaker Newt Gingrich, on Thursday, Oct. 15. Gingrich's brief speech focused on topics such as the problems of sub-prime mortgages, George Washington's leadership tactics and the conflict in Iraq; Bradley's discussed the goodness of the American people, the differences between Republicans and Democrats and healthcare reform.

"Nerds," chemists and children alike celebrated as science took center stage at The Works, an interactive children's learning center, in Newark last Thursday night (Oct. 22). Two Denison scientific clubs, Neuroscience Education and Research at Denison (NERD) and Denison Chemical Society (DCS), put on scientific demonstrations in the museum's first ever science night for kids.

Meet your new student trustee

Romero Huffstead, '08, was elected to be the new student trustee last spring and was back on campus two weeks ago for training and his first board of trustees meeting. Huffstead is from Chicago, Ill. and was a psychology major while at Denison. He is completing his master's in clinical mental health at Indiana State in May and is currently applying to get his PhD in counseling psychology.

DCGA pulls off Spirit Week; Talks of Slayter Pit Renovation continue

The DCGA may have not had a meeting during Fall break, but this didn't stop our student government from working around the clock to plan events, and talk with school staff to make the lives of students more convenient. The meeting before Fall break had the DCGA continued their talks of renovating the Slayter Pit into a more student friendly environment.
