What to do if you're single Thousands of single girls (and guys, I suppose) dread the fourteenth of February every year. Sure, Valentine's Day is fun when you're in elementary school, and everyone is obligated to give you candy and cards. However, as you get older, this holiday quickly becomes the one day of the year where everyone feels the need to showcase the fact that they're in love and you're not.
All right, so this is our Valentine's Day issue, more or less, and on the previous page there are Valentine's Day-related articles about things like gift and date ideas, what to do if you're single and the history of the holiday itself. I figured I should do my part, too.
Denison students rehearse for Hook-ups and Hang-ups: College Students Speak Out, a performance piece directed by Liz Stanton and Bethany Jean Urban, and developed by Christa Ray. The piece, put on by Giving Voice Productions, is based on interviews with Denison students, and deals with hot topics such as drinking and hook-ups.
A larger than usual crowd gathered in the Slayter Pit this past Wednesday morning for the infamous bluegrass jam band. The whole place was bouncing to the beat of the standing bass, the steady strum of the guitar, the whirling fiddle melody, the rapidly plucking banjo and the tight harmonies.
The music department faculty voted to approve a new music major concentration in bluegrass at last Thursday's department meeting. "Music indigenous to the country is being recognized by academia, and I'm excited that Denison will be at the forefront of this," said Andy Carlson, co-director of the bluegrass program, at Friday night's Infamous Stringsdusters concert in Swasey.
"Art must be learned in a space that is artful," said Kerry Dixon, an art historian and co-founder of the Granville Studio of the Visual Arts (GVSA). GVSA is located at the historic Bryn Du Mansion Estate in Granville, which is approximately two miles from campus.
