Changes may be in store for the Honors Program due to a long-overdue review.

Every 10 years each department and academic program is subject to external review.

The program slipped through the cracks and has not been reviewed for almost 20 years, said Brad Bateman, provost and executive vice president,

The Honors Program was ready for its normal review this past year.

This could mean big changes for the program in the future.

According to Bateman, the first step the program undertook was an internal study by the program itself, which was then given to external evaluators to be used as a part of their study.

Then, last spring, external evaluators visited Denison's campus and wrote an external report on the program.

The program is now approaching the final step in review, Bateman said, which is a review of the external report and a response by the Academic Affairs Committee.

The work being done by the AAC could mean changes in the future of the Honors Program, though because work is currently in progress, those changes are not yet decided upon.

Current honors students can expect to hear of any changes as the finals steps of review and evaluation are completed, and the campus can look to a fresh and improved program over the next few years.
