I don't think there is anyone who loves the smell of garbage and spilled beer in the morning.

There have been many Friday and Saturday mornings where I have woken up and walked outside my apartment to find trash in the hallways and alcohol coating the floor to the point where your shoes sick  to ground while walking out of the building.

This year alone I have already had a pizza shoved up against my apartment door, seen beer bottles thrown down the stairs, had pumpkins smashed into the carpet floors and out windows, and even smelled foul odors walking into my building that no one should have to live with.

In past years living on East Quad, it seemed like every weekend there was another window or door broken. My roommates and I even had to fill out an accident report for having our peep hole stolen.

I have seen lounge chairs thrown around lobbies, been in suites where students had spray painted graffiti on their walls and during my stay in Crawford I would go into the community bathroom only to find that someone had thrown up not in the toilet, but all over the floor from the night before.

I have heard stories of hams being dropped in Shorney from the top to the bottom floor of the staircase and for a while I was convinced that the aroma wafting around the Sunsets resembled that of stale cat food.

Are you grossed out yet?

If not, you should be because this is the squalor conditions some students have to live with.

These acts show complete and blatant disrespect for our living environment.

I have no problem with students throwing parties in their rooms, after all, this is still college, but there seems to be no consideration for the people that live around this mess.

Not to mention, many employees here on campus come to work every Monday morning and find that this chaos has accumulated over the weekend and is ready for them to clean up.

There was girl that left our apartment at 8 a.m. one day to find the cleaning lady outside our room amidst the trash all over the floor.

The cleaning lady told her that she didn't even know where to start since the place was such an utter disaster.

Of course, not only does this create unnecessary labor for the people who work at this school, but when windows and doors are broken, it costs money.

This is money which the school should not spending because students are unable to control themselves when they are drunk, since drinking seems to be the most common excuse for acting this way.

There are a lot of students here that take where they live for granted.

Many students at larger universities are working jobs while going to school so they can pay their rent.

In those cases, you will find that they take better care of their houses and apartments mainly because they have a greater appreciation for where they live since they are working to pay the monthly bills.

The fact is that no one likes waking up to a putrid mess in the morning, and no one especially likes cleaning it up.

If you are going to have a party, the right thing to do is be responsible and pick up after yourself.

Please don't leave it for someone else to take care, especially when there are other students in the building paying just as much for their housing as the next person.
