On Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, living rooms in America were full and citizens eagerly waited for the results of the 2008 presidential election. The race that had seemed so long and tedious was about to come to a close, and when it finally did in those last few hours of the night, it was the shout heard round the world.
To give a perspective regarding the effectiveness and the outcomes of Obama's administration, the College Republicans are hosting Rich Lowry, editor of National Review magazine and syndicated columnist for such publications as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Los Angeles Times.
Lowry will discuss the effects he believes President Obama will have on Washington and the United States as a whole.
Nicholas Flocken, a senior economics and political science double major, believes that Lowry's speech will help to inform students by critiquing both sides of government. As president of the College Republicans, Flocken eagerly anticipates having such an esteemed and knowledgeable speaker. "[I am] personally curious to hear Rich Lowry's point of view on what Obama can do to change Washington," he said.
One cannot help but wonder about the outcome of having Rich Lowry speak. In the Dec. 2 issue of National Review, he compared Obama to Bush, saying that "change has rarely looked so much like continuity."
Whether or not Lowry's speech is controversial or unbiased, it is one presentation that anyone interested in our country's government would not want to miss.
Lowry will be speaking on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. in Herrick Hall.
