Have you ever seen the movie "Casper"? You know, the one with the young Christina Ricci, playing the angst-filled teenager? And the dad, played by Bill Pullman, who claims to be a ghost therapist, counseling the deceased and helping them to cross over to the other side? For some, this may simply be a movie, a timeless, fantastical classic - but for a man named Chris Moon, it is very much a reality.

Moon has dedicated his life to searching for evidence of the paranormal and claims to have helped them cross over into the "after-life." Denison was fortunate enough to host Moon this past Friday night through the University Programming Council.

For the first hour and a half, he gave a presentation on his life and explained to the audience exactly why and how he does what he does. He claimed that he has had paranormal abilities ever since he was young, and because of their strength and persistency, he turned them into his career.

He uses several technological devices on his "hunts" to communicate with the dead. He also has a "spirit technician" named Tyler, a spirit who has fully crossed over and works as Moon would but from the other side. They communicate with each other, and Tyler tells him what the ghosts are saying or how many there are in a certain place.

Moon seems to have a strong relationship with Tyler and referred to him as being like a little brother. While I prefer communicating with my siblings in the flesh, Moon and Tyler's connection seemed genuine.

Over the course of our ghost hunt across Denison, Tyler was helpful in our communication with the spirits. Moon found some angry spirits lurking in Chamberlain House that didn't seem to want us there, so we moved to the cemetery behind Smith hall and chatted with a woman name Mary who, according to Moon, was very pleasant and quite personable.

Moon allowed any of the 50 participants on the hunt to posit questions for him to ask the ghosts, and most of the time they would answer whatever we asked. We were unable to assist any spirits in crossing over that night, which was kind of a bummer, but we had some close encounters that made the overall experience rather entertaining. While I can't say that Moon's claims weren't hokey at times, he definitely got me to give Mary a nod the next time I passed the cemetery.

Wow, I never knew that people actually do this as a career. It would be interesting to talk to him like you did.

People ask the ghosts and most of the time they would answer whatever we asked. Personally I am afraid of it.
