While at Denison, he was a co-governor for his class, the president of the Black Student Union (BSU), a Resident Assistant, a member of the DCGA residential life and finance committees, co-chairman of the senior class gift committee, a research assistant in the psychology department and LeaderShape participant.
Huffstead is a President's Medalist and McNair Scholar. His awards and accolades during his time at Denison include the Posse Foundation Leadership Scholarship, the Dr. Martin Luther King Leadership Award, the Black Alumni Association Scholarship Award, Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges Award and MASFAA Student Success Award. In addition, Huffstead is a member of the Chi Sigma Iota (counseling academic and professional honor society), the Golden Key International Honor Society and most recently a member of the Denison University Board of Trustees.
Huffstead, after his first board meeting, wants to make sure the students are fully aware of his new role as the new student trustee.
Ally Klein: Can you explain your position on the board and what happens at your meetings?
Romero Huffstead: Each trustee is responsible for committees and they all sit on different ones. For instance, I'm on the student affairs committee, the alumni affairs committee, the enrollment committee and also the alumni counsel. With student affairs, we are focusing on issues making sure the students have the best experience possible. The DCGA president and vice president gave us an update, putting forth different proposals, and we evaluate all of the students concerns. In doing so, we are trying to enhance the university environment.
