Garret Moore: I have been here with Denison since February 1998, so for 11 years. Before I was at Denison, I spent 12 years at the University of Delaware. I was a police manager and lieutenant in charge of the evening shift. Delaware is about ten times larger than Denison, so there is always something interesting going on. We had about 50 police officers. I got my degree in criminal justice there, too, and my master's in public administration there while I was working as a police officer.
CF: Where are you from? Did you grow up in the Granville area?
GM: My father was in the Air Force, so I have lived all over the world. I graduated from high school in Dover, Del., and have lived in Hawaii, West Germany, and South Dakota.
CF: What is Security's role in the Denison community?
GM: Mainly, our goal is education, just like the main goal of the college is education. We would like to educate students to make good choices in terms of personal safety. We can't be everywhere on campus, so we expect that students are making good choices so that they can get though their four years here safely. Everyone wants to have a good time while they are here, but we want to make sure that they are safe, too.
CF: What is your specific role and duty here at Denison?
GM: I oversee the security, safety and risk management, which involves coordinating the law enforcement. If there are any violations, my office is responsible for investigating and reporting this information to the Dean of Students. We talk to Student Affairs two to three times a day and are in constant communication with them. We provide them with information about any concerns we have that may be in need of intervention. We are mainly sending them conduct violations, which are comprised of mostly alcohol and noise violations, but also harassment issues, often between boyfriends and girlfriends.

Great interview with Director Moore - I went through an online personal safety education this year that is great for college campuses and students. It teaches how to observe, assess and identify threats before you find yourself in a bad situation: www. (Continued…)
