When one refers to D-Day at Denison, it is not in reference to the historical events of 1944. Rather, it is a day dedicated to celebrating Denison, ending with a concert in the evening. By this time of year, the buzz on the hill is usually surrounding rumors of who the artist will be at D-Day. Scheduled to take place on Saturday, Nov. 14, rumors this year may be shedding light to some other revealing news.

D-Day this year has been moved to the spring semester. The tentative date for D-Day is the weekend of Feb. 5.

DCGA President Ryan Burandt had to act quickly to appoint another D-Day chair early this year after unexpected complications with the original D-Day chair, who did not return to Denison this year. The D-Day committee had to play catch-up in order to make up for lost time in planning a successful D-Day.

"Once we found out the original D-Day Chair would not be returning [to Denison], we immediately chose junior Kevin Lynch as the new D-Day chair. So far he has done a great job," said Burandt. "Kevin has a great passion for D-Day. His experience as a member of the D-Day Committee last year and his role as concerts chair of UPC make him well qualified. Kevin is also a strong communicator and has shown great ability to lead the D-Day committee."

The move to spring semester was a decision made with the students in mind. Sophomore communication and international studies major Genesis Giraldo said, "I think the movement of D-Day to the spring is unfortunate but if it means having a better artist, so be it." D-Day's move to the spring semester is not a permanent move. It will be back to its original timeline to be held in the fall semester next year.

"The committee is extremely comfortable with moving the date. It was always an option from the beginning of this hurried process, and we all agreed that we would rather have the concert moved than to try to hastily put together a performance if it came down to the wire," said newly appointed D-Day Chair Junior Kevin Lynch. "We moved the concert because many of the artists we were discussing had already solidified their fall concert schedules, and due to some unforeseeable situations forcing us to start a little late this year, and because we really want this concert to be amazing, moving it to the spring was the best option."

I think it's not really a big deal that it was moved to Spring semester. It's probably a better time anyway.

I think that no matter when D-Day will be held, it is a holiday for all the Denison`s students.
