Another winter break has come to a close, and for many people on Denison's campus, that meant participation in one of the sponsored break activities. The LeaderShape Institute, a national organization which aims to train tomorrow's leaders, had its ninth annual week-long break trip from Jan. 11 to Jan. 16 for Denison students.

Sixty-eight students of all years went to Salt Fork Lodge in Cambridge, Ohio, to learn about strategies to become leaders, both on Denison's campus and in life.

It is described as a "living-learning" institute where all participants attend sessions, activities, and discussion groups in order to improve their leadership abilities.

The students who attended LeaderShape considered it a great chance to connect to more people on campus. Junior Amy Eberlin said, "It was a great experience. I learned a lot and met a great group of Denison students and faculty there."

The trip had two student interns: Rachel Drennen, a senior English literature major, and Kristy Barngrover, both of whom were integral to the publicity and success of the trip.

Barngrover, a senior, said of the students who went on the trip, "I was so impressed by the willingness of the group to share with one another and embrace LeaderShape's mantra of having a "healthy disregard for the impossible"."

On the trip, through several different activities, the participants came up with strategies to lead and succeed, both on and off the hill. They all praised the experience of LeaderShape as one out of the ordinary and bringing out the best in people.

Junior Audrey Wood summed it up by saying, "LeaderShape was the best possible way to start off the semester: I discovered more about myself and what I am passionate about, met a great group of Denison students, and was truly inspired."
