The quiet, yet unquestioned leader of the Big Red men's basketball team, senior Chris Luther's work ethic is seen in his dedication in the classroom and on the court. A graduate of Oakwood High School in Dayton, Chris will receive a degree in biology this spring from Denison. On the hardwood, Luther not only leads the Big Red in scoring for the second consecutive season with 16.3 points per contest, but he also leads the North Coast Athletic Conference in minutes played. Luther sat down with The Denisonian to talk about hoops and his future plans.

Brett Tiberi: You went to Europe this past summer to compete for USA Athletes International. What did you take or learn from this experience?

Chris Luther: It was a great cultural learning experience. We went to Bosnia, Croatia and Italy; three very unique and interesting cultures. The best part about it was playing a very different style of basketball than I had been accustomed to and going up against international players who have learned the game differently than I have.

Croatia was my favorite place that we went because of its landscape, especially its coastline. It was a very much like the portrayals of small European towns in movies. Every once in a while, we would pass a town along the coastline and see beautiful white houses with red roofs. Because of the mountainous terrain between towns, there were winding, switchback roads. Anyone who has traveled on a charter bus knows that it is not meant to make such severe turns!

BT: What is your most memorable moment as a Denison basketball player?

CL: My two favorite memories were our wins against Wabash in the last two years. Last year, in Crawfordsville, was one of the best atmospheres in any game that I have been a part of. Before the win last year, Denison had never won at Wabash; there's no better feeling than going on the road and shocking a packed house.

Earlier this year against Wabash, we opened the game by scoring the first 15 points. I ended up scoring my career-high (32 points) and we got our first win of this season.
