This connection is a testament not only to the expertise, experience, and positive environment for the growth of players and coaches alike that Caravana has offered, but also to the competitive Denison lacrosse tradition. Many of the previously mentioned Division I coaches speak volumes about their experiences in the Denison lacrosse program.

"First and foremost, he (Caravana) is a man of character who challenges his players every single day. He is someone who is schooled in the fundamentals of lacrosse and is truly one of the best teachers I have ever encountered," noted first-year Dartmouth assistant coach Jon Torpey.

As an assistant under Caravana during the 2001 season, Torpey helped lead the Big Red on an amazing Final-Four run in the NCAA Tournament. A former NLL and MLL Champion, Torpey has taken with him many of the lessons learned under Caravana during that '01 season.

"I look at key words that describe Coach Caravana, and I think of honesty, family, work ethic, generosity and consistency. The lives that he has touched over the years in the sport of lacrosse are too numerous to mention."

As one of the premier coaches in Division III, Caravana's reach extends to all areas of the lacrosse world, from the youth scene all the way to the professional ranks. A 1983 graduate of the University of Virginia, the Long Island native was a four-time All-American attackman for the Cavaliers. At Denison, he is a four-time NCAC Coach of the Year has led the Big Red to 159 career victories. He has also served four years as an assistant coach for the United States lacrosse national team.

"Coach Caravana is one of the great coaches in all of lacrosse. Not only is he a great relationship builder, but he is also a great teacher of the game and of life's lessons as well," sixth-year US Military Academy assistant coach Mike Murphy pointed out.

Before taking a position at the Academy, Murphy spent two seasons ('02, '03) at Denison where he was in charge of the Big Red's defensive unit and face-off personnel.
